Someone was already there.
Photos from the scene, taken by the people standing in it, pinned to the place and time. We are open to newsrooms licensing them, as long as it is transparent and honest.
For Newsrooms
When something happens outside the main centres, your nearest photographer is hours away. Someone on that road has already taken the photo. GeoMarqr shows you where and when it was taken. We are open to newsrooms paying to publish these photos, as long as it is transparent and honest for the people who took them. It is not built yet. Tell us if it would be useful.
A photo from the public is worth paying for. The money should go to the person who took it, or to the map that carried it.
What is there today
-
Photos from where it is happening
A live public map of photos from people on the ground. Find the slip, the flood or the crash by place, not by hashtag.
-
Where and when, recorded at capture
Each photo carries the location and time the phone recorded when it was taken, not when it was uploaded. We don't verify what a photo shows, so treat it as a lead and check it the way you would any other source.
-
Checked before it is public
Every upload passes an automated check for objectionable content before it reaches the map. Anyone can report a photo, and we review reports within 24 hours.
How it would work
- 1
Find the photo
Open the live map and go to where the story is. Photos are pinned to the place they were taken.
- 2
Buy a licence
Pick the photos you want to run and pay for them. You get a clear right to publish, with no chasing a stranger for permission. Photos whose owner has opted out would not be for sale.
- 3
Run it
Publish with the place and time the photo was taken.
Where the money would go
-
The photographer has an account
They would get two months of GeoMarqr premium.
-
The photo was uploaded anonymously
There is nobody to pay, so the money would go to keeping GeoMarqr running.
-
The photographer said no
Anyone could opt out of having their photos sold. An opted-out photo would never be for sale.
Would this be useful to your newsroom?
We are open to photo licensing as a way to pay for the upkeep, as long as it is transparent and honest. It is not built yet. Tell us what you would need and we will shape it around that.
